Inspired by the legendary still champagne known as Rosé des Riceys. This wine became famous in the court of Louis IX when stone workers from the village of Riceys were brought to Versailles to work on the Chateau. They brought their local wine with them and it enchanted the King. It is a pale red wine which was the norm at the time.
Our wine was made from Estate grown Pinot Noir with 3 days maceration on skins before being pressed. A beautiful pale claret colour.
Tasting notes by Geoff Heinricks:
Rosé de Riceys
Beautiful red (claret) colour
Burgundy/slight purple edge (youth)
Swarm fruit & savoury nose.
Slight wild County oregano and basil nose in fruit.
Warm ripe wild strawberry nose.
Sweet (though only 2 g sugar)
Fruit...pure fruit. Honey. Broad finish.
Acid spine hidden in the counterintuitive richness of the fruit and weight/ finish.
A TASTE OF HISTORY.
Perfect balance in the mouth.
Wild strawberries prominent at the moment.
Could drink all day.
